The Civil War in the Age of Nationalism (01:58:14)
Niels Eichhorn and Duncan Campbell are co-authors of "The Civil War in the Age of Nationalism." While historians have acknowledged that the issues of race, slavery, and emancipation were not unique to the American Civil War, they have less frequently recognized the conflict’s similarities to other global events. As renowned historian Carl Degler pointed out, the Civil War was “one among many” such conflicts during the mid-nineteenth century. Understanding the Civil War’s place in world history requires placing it within a global context of other mid-nineteenth-century political, social, and cultural issues and events."The Civil War in the Age of Nationalism" explores the conflict from this perspective, taking a transnational and comparative approach, with a particular focus on the period from the 1830s to the 1870s.

The Nixon Conspiracy: Watergate and the Plot to Remove the President (02:24:41)
Geoff Shepard graduated from Harvard Law School in 1969 and was selected a White House Fellow that same year. Following his fellowship year, Geoff joined John Ehrlichman’s newly-created Domestic Council staff at the Nixon White House, where he served for five years, first as staff assistant and ultimately as associate director.
He then served on President Nixon’s Watergate defense team, where he was principal deputy to the lead lawyer, J. Fred Buzhardt. He is the man who transcribed the infamous “smoking gun” tape that forced Nixon to resign and in fact he is the one who named it the smoking gun. He is now considered by many to be the world’s leading voice on the Watergate scandal.

What Will Happen in the 2024 Presidential Election? (01:11:01)
We are currently in uncharted territory in American politics. Within the past 2 weeks, we've seen an assassination attempt on Donald Trump, a historic RNC, and President Joe Biden suspending his re-election bid and stepping down as presidential candidate. We've never seen anything quite like this, but if we look back to the 1968 presidential election, we may be better equipped to understand 2024.

The Legendary Battle of the Alamo (01:08:38)
Kolby Lanham is a senior researcher and historian at the Alamo. The Battle of the Alamo was a pivotal event during the Texas Revolution, where a small group of Texan defenders held out for 13 days against the vastly larger Mexican army led by General Santa Anna. Taking place from February 23 to March 6, 1836, the siege ended in a brutal assault that resulted in the deaths of all the Texan fighters, including notable figures such as William B. Travis, James Bowie, and the legendary frontiersman Davy Crockett. Crockett's presence at the Alamo has since become a symbol of courage and sacrifice, embodying the spirit of resistance that defined the battle and galvanized the Texan cause for independence.
