His scientific background is diverse with over 400 peer-reviewed publications, and a history of NIH funding in aging, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, genomics and health services research. His research experience spans the range of population research methodologies including group randomized trials, behavioral and pharmaceutical intervention trials, the use of administrative data, and traditional cohort and case-control methodologies. While at University of Tennessee he established the Clinical Epidemiology Masters Program, at Wake Forest he leads research career development programs in the Aging Center and for the School of Medicine. Dr. Kritchevsky has extensive leadership experience of complex research enterprises. He is the first non-physician PI of a Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center, and was the first Director of the coordinating center for the entire Pepper program. Since then, he has served as a virtual cardiovascular / lipidology educator. Tommy received an undergraduate degree in biochemistry from the University of Cambridge before attending medical school at the University of Oxford. After working as a junior doctor in central London, he moved to Norway for his PhD work, and then to the University of Washington as a postdoc. His current research interests include the physiological and metabolic responses to brain injury, as well as developing easily accessible methods with which to track human health, performance, and longevity. After postdoctoral studies at Harvard and Sloan-Kettering, he began his faculty career at Boston University in 1982 and then moved to his current position at Michigan in 1990. Dr. Miller has served in a variety of editorial and advisory positions on behalf of the American Federation for Aging Research and the National Institute on Aging, and served as one of the Editors-in-Chief of Aging Cell. He is the recipient of the Nathan Shock Award, the Allied Signal Award, the Irving Wright Award, an award from the Glenn Foundation, and the Kleemeier Award for aging research. He has been a Senior Scholar of the Ellison Medical Foundation, and is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and a member of the Association of American Physicians. At Michigan, he directs the Paul F. Glenn Center for Aging Research. Dr. Brager is a neurobiologist with expertise in sleep and circadian rhythms. She works on human and animal models of study. This work examines substrates and mechanisms of resiliency to extreme environmental stress (exercise, jet lag, and sleep deprivation). She has several leadership and service positions for the federal government, professional research societies, and university departments. At present, she sits on fatigue management and neuroenhancement working groups through NATO, US Special Operations Command, the Office of the Army Surgeon General, and inter-government (DoD, NASA, FAA, NHTSA, NIH). She has also written military training doctrine on holistic health and co-authored the first edition of the NCAA student-athlete mental health handbook. She has served on the Board of Directors and have chaired committees for the Sleep Research Society, the Society for Research on Biological Rhythms, and Gordon Research Conferences. In addition to > 40 peer-reviewed publications in flagship society journals, Dr. Brager has written op-ed and column pieces for Science and professional society bulletins, have been on many podcasts, and have a popular science book entitled Meathead: Unraveling the Athletic Brain. The book content ties the fields of exercise physiology and neuroscience with her experiences as an elite athlete in track & field and CrossFit.
