People she knew who interacted with her just before she disappeared reported that she was in the midst of a mental health crisis; behaving erratically, not making sense and extremely agitated. Gaia was also epileptic, which was cause for additional concern about her welfare. The true horror of Amityville, Long Island did not begin with a supposed supernatural event. In November 1974, 23 year old Ronald DeFeo Jnr. entered a local bar claiming his family had been shot. Police were called to the DeFeo family residence on Ocean Avenue, where they confirmed that all 6 family members had been shot in their beds, leaving Ronald DeFeo Jnr. the sole surviving member.
